Wearable Instrument

Authors

This project bridges body, sound, and textiles by creating a wearable instrument that transforms movement into musical expression. Seven knitted, stretch-responsive sensors made from resistive yarns and embedded into the dress using specific knitting structures enable real-time sound interaction, making music creation accessible to non-experts.

The bag contains a speaker, power source, and microprocessor that performs sound synthesis and analyzes sensor data. Red channels covering the wires serve both as technical and design elements. A metal clasp functions as the main power switch. Arm gestures trigger string or bass notes depending on arm angles; hunching the back activates reverb effects; and two side sensors in the skirt control the frequency of background soundtracks.
